Salt & Pepper’s FMC, Nia Rose Hobson, is a new face to the JGU. Her life, both past and present, is a primary driver of this story. Let's learn a little more about our leading lady with the bleeding heart.

As I previously shared when we previewed Boom as an MMC, the move from Hey Auntie and Say What You Mean to Salt & Pepper was welcomed because of the characters' ages. That shift brought with it an opportunity to delve into more mature issues (e.g., divorce, long-term mother-daughter relationships, etc), to frame a story involving 40+ individuals.

For those scoring at home, forty, ain't old!

Our FMC is a woman born and raised in Houston, Texas. She ran track collegiately at the University of Houston, where she earned an Early Childhood Education degree. And with said schooling, she came right back home--opening up a thriving early childhood learning center in Houston's Third Ward. When she's not loving on her babies, she splits her time between her bff Blake and her annoying best friend, who's more like her brother, Jonny.

During any leftover time, she quietly hopes that her perpetual on-again, off-again man since college finally decides to settle down.

Who is Nia Rose?

Nia is loyal to a fault. She loves hard and believes in going above and beyond for what she believes in. She's not the loud, ra-ra type, but is far from meek. Her default setting is to ride for everyone, but she tends to lose her voice when it comes to speaking up for herself.

Why you should root for her?

She's the unproblematic girl next door. Nia believes in family, community, and helping raise the next generation of Black and brown babies to be successful. She likes good food and loves to laugh.

And witnessing the soul tie between her and her ex is enough to want her to win, and for his ass to fall off a cliff.

SALT & PEPPER, coming soon!
